Pharmacy Technician Apprenticeship

Program Overview

Samaritan Health Services offers a Pharmacy Technician Apprenticeship. It is a true “earn and learn” pathway to employment for individuals wanting to become a certified pharmacy technician.

Pharmacy technicians are highly valued and in demand in the health care industry. The pharmacy technician role focuses on completing administrative and clinical tasks, working in collaboration with a licensed pharmacist. Their duties vary with the location, specialty and size of the pharmacy.

Apprentices will:

  • Earn and learn: All apprentices will be full-time employees with benefits and eligible for hire upon completion of the program.
  • Prepare for pharmacy technician certification: The program prepares apprentices to complete the exam and earn the certified pharmacy technician, also known as CPhT, certification through National Healthcareer Association.
  • Complete hands-on training: Apprentices will complete 2,000 hours of on-the-job training over 12 months with one-on-one mentoring by an experienced certified pharmacy technician and 156 hours of online coursework.

Program Details

  • Paid, full-time with benefits.
  • Program lasts approximately 12 months (2,000 hours).
  • Includes 156 hours of online coursework and associated homework, which is to be done on the apprentice’s own time.
  • No cost to the apprentice for program and classroom fees, certified pharmacy technician certification preparation and testing fee.

Program Eligibility

To be eligible for the program, internal and external candidates must meet the following minimum qualifications:

  • Age: Must be age 18 years or older to participate.
  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Additional: Must acquire (or be able to acquire prior to starting) a pharmacy technician license.
  • Physical: Must be able to perform the duties of the position with or without reasonable accommodations.

How to Apply

Employers are under no obligation to hire any applicant they interview, and the individual must also meet all of Samaritan’s hiring criteria such as passing a criminal background check and pre-employment drug screening.
