Samaritan Welcomes Steven Cathcart, DO September 13, 2022 Steven Cathcart, DO, has joined Samaritan Endocrinology. Dr. Cathcart diagnoses and treats hormone conditions, including diabetes and thyroid disease. He also sees patients at Samaritan Health Center – Newport, Samaritan Medical Group Endocrinology – Lincoln City and Samaritan Specialty Clinic – Lebanon. Dr. Cathcart earned a bachelor’s degree at University of Portland and a medical degree at Midwestern University. He completed residency training at Lutheran General Hospital – Advocate HealthCare and a fellowship in endocrinology at Oregon Health Sciences University School of Medicine. He became a doctor because he wanted a career that combined his knowledge of science with personal interaction. “Medicine is unique in the way we can help people every day,” he said. Dr. Cathcart likes to solve puzzles, a skill he uses in his specialty. “The body is always trying to bring things back to normal. So, if you understand those feedback loops, you can know what’s going on and use that to help patients,” he said. “One of the things I like about endocrinology is taking care of patients long-term, maybe even a lifetime.” After attending college and completing his training in Portland, Dr. Cathcart chose Oregon for his medical practice. He grew up in Spokane, Washington, and his parents were physicians there. “I love the culture of the Pacific Northwest, and I wanted to stay close to family,” he said. “My relationships to friends and family are important.” In his free time, Dr. Cathcart enjoys playing board games, reading and traveling. He is accepting new patients and can be reached by calling Samaritan Endocrinology at 541‑768‑7900.
