Four Students Named to Mullins Scholarship August 12, 2020 The Good Samaritan Hospital Foundation is pleased to announce that four health career students have received the 2020 Larry A. Mullins Endowed Scholarship for Health Care Education for the 2020-21 academic year. The recipients are: Alexi Ismail of Corvallis, pursuing a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Pharmaceutical Sciences degree at Oregon State University. Colin Albi of Eugene, pursuing a Master of Science degree at the OHSU School of Nursing. Jodie Smalley of Corvallis, pursuing an Associate of Applied Science degree through the Linn Benton Community College Occupational Therapy Assistant Program. Molly Sotero of Eugene, pursuing a Master of Science degree in nursing at Georgetown University. These students have demonstrated exemplary work ethic, academic achievement and purpose, and the selection committee was especially pleased with these students’ connections to Samaritan Health Services. The committee wishes them great success and heartfelt congratulations as they pursue rewarding and important careers in the health care profession. The Mullins Scholarship was established in 2003 by the board of directors of Samaritan Health Services. It was formed in honor of Dr. Mullins, the former president/CEO of Samaritan Health Services, after he completed his doctoral degree in health care administration (DHA) from the Medical University of South Carolina. Dr. Mullins retired in 2018 following a 25-year career with Samaritan. Dr. Mullins chairs the selection committee for the scholarship and the Good Samaritan Hospital Foundation administers it. At least one scholarship of $1,000 is awarded annually from the fund. Candidates must be currently pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree in a health care related field. Mullins scholarships are available to individuals throughout Benton, Lincoln and Linn counties without regard to race, religion, national origin, gender, age, color, disability or marital status. Special consideration is given to applicants who are currently employed in the health care field, members or veterans of the U.S. military and those who are willing to work in Oregon or Arizona, where Dr. Mullins and his family lived prior to coming to Corvallis.
