Five Students Named to Mullins Scholarship September 23, 2021 The Good Samaritan Hospital Foundation is pleased to announce that five health career students have received the Larry A. Mullins Endowed Scholarship for Health Care Education for the 2021-22 academic year. Recipients include: Abigail Reynders of Lebanon, Oregon, is pursuing an associate degree in applied science through the Linn Benton Community College Nursing Program. Reynders is an employee of Samaritan Health Services. Alexis Proteau of Albany, Oregon, is pursuing a doctorate in pharmaceutical sciences through the Oregon State University College of Pharmacy. Proteau is an employee of Samaritan Health Services. Chad Ross of Anchorage, Alaska, is pursuing a master’s degree in acupuncture and Chinese medicine through the Oregon College of Oriental Medicine. Londyn Randall of Albany, Oregon, is a recent graduate of East Linn Christian Academy and plans to complete the emergency medical training and paramedic programs through Chemeketa Community College. Sarah Chatter of Flagstaff, Arizona, is pursuing a bachelor’s degree in health sciences and public health with a minor in applied indigenous studies at Northern Arizona University. “These students have demonstrated work ethic, academic achievement and purpose, and we are especially pleased with their connections to Samaritan Health Services,” said Larry Mullins, DHA, chair of the selection committee. “We wish them great success and heartfelt congratulations as they pursue rewarding and important careers in the health care profession.” The Mullins Scholarship was established in 2003 by the board of directors of Samaritan Health Services. It was formed in honor of Dr. Mullins, the former president/CEO of Samaritan Health Services, upon the completion of his doctorate in health care administration from the Medical University of South Carolina. Dr. Mullins retired in 2018, following a 25-year career with Samaritan. The Good Samaritan Hospital Foundation administers the scholarship, with at least one $1,000 scholarship awarded annually from the fund. Candidates must be currently pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree in a health care-related field. Mullins scholarships are available to individuals without regard to race, religion, national origin, gender, age, color, disability or marital status. Special consideration will be given to applicants who are currently employed in the health care field, members or veterans of the U.S. military and those who are willing to work in Oregon or Arizona.
