Corvallis Hospital Ultrasound Earns Accreditation

The sonography (ultrasound) team at Good Samaritan Regional Medical Center has earned a three-year accreditation from the American College of Radiology (ACR). This designation represents the highest level of image quality and patient safety.

The accreditation covers obstetrical, gynecological, vascular, peripheral, cerebrovascular and abdominal ultrasound testing. This is in addition to separate ACR accreditations they achieved for breast and breast biopsy ultrasound.

The ACR bestows accreditation on facilities meeting ACR practice parameters and technical standards, following a peer-review evaluation by board-certified physicians and medical physicists who are experts in the field. Image quality, personnel qualifications, adequacy of facility equipment, quality control procedures and quality assurance programs are assessed. The findings are reported to the ACR Committee on Accreditation, which subsequently provides the practice with a comprehensive report that can be used for continuous practice improvement.

“To achieve the ACR Gold Standard of Accreditation, our facility’s personnel qualifications, equipment requirements, quality assurance and quality control procedures have gone through a rigorous review to meet specific qualifications,” said Jennifer Ringwald, sonography lead for GSRMC Imaging Services. “It’s important for patients to know that every aspect of the ACR accreditation process is overseen by board-certified, expert radiologists and medical physicists in advanced diagnostic imaging.”

“This was an extreme amount of work and a stellar accomplishment for Jennifer, her team and Leila Bender, MD, who assisted us with this initiative,” said Bob Ferreira, Imaging director. “I am very proud of this group.”
