Corvallis Hospital Celebrates First Baby of the New Year January 3, 2022 “It was a textbook delivery,” said Lauren Dalton, a biology instructor at Oregon State University and proud mother of the first baby of the New Year at Corvallis’ Good Samaritan Regional Medical Center. Evie Willow Dalton was born to Lauren and Lane Dalton of Corvallis at 5:02 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 1. The healthy girl weighed 8 pounds, 12 ounces and was 20 inches long. “We’re super excited,” said Lauren. “We didn’t think this late in the day that we would be the first ones.” Evie joins a 2-year-old sister at home. Evie’s father Lane is a mechanical engineer. To celebrate the first baby of the New Year, it is tradition for Good Samaritan Regional Medical Center to present a gift basket of care products, toys and items to celebrate. The couple chose to withhold discovering the baby’s gender until birth. “We both thought that it was going to be a girl, and our doctor thought it was going to be a boy,” Lauren said. “We won the prediction.” A pool of her Oregon State coworkers also thought the couple were going to have a boy. “It was three to one for a boy and no one picked her to be as big as she was,” Lauren said.
