Cancer Resource Center Winter Warm Event Well Supported January 17, 2022 Many generous Samaritans and community members flooded the various sites arranged by the Samaritan Cancer Resource Center with donations for their Winter Warm event, benefiting patients receiving cancer treatment throughout Benton, Lincoln and Linn counties. Participants had two ways to help bring winter warmth to cancer patients. They could donate knitted items such as gloves, fuzzy socks, scarfs or hats. Or they could pick up a blank note card and create an artistic greeting or write a message of support to encourage and bring cheer to our cancer patients. Some donors did both! Oncology Outreach Coordinator Carmen Boone with the Samaritan Cancer Resource Center expressed her gratitude to those who donated, and to the many supporters and partners that helped with the program, including the Center for Health Education in Newport, Ashbrook Independent School in Corvallis and the Albany LDS Church. “The drive ended in mid-December and we were able to get the goodie bags out to patients before the holiday season and snowy weather,” Boone said. “We know they appreciated the heartfelt cards and warm, fuzzy gifts. I know it warmed my heart to see the response!” In total, the Winter Warm event received 78 knitted pairs of socks, 72 hats, 52 blankets 15 pairs of gloves, 10 scarves and 139 cards – resulting in 227 goodie bags created. Goodie bags were distributed to infusion, lymphedema, hematology and oncology patients at all five Samaritan sites.
