Heart Health Information

Why Your Heart Matters

Your heart is the engine that keeps your body running and is essential to your overall well-being.

While many people don’t realize they have a heart issue, being proactive as possible in your heart health keeps your body in tune and prevents future heart conditions.

General awareness of issues related to your heart health, and taking simple steps to strengthen your heart health, can go a long way in living a long, healthy life.

Samaritan has more than 60 heart-related videos, including several seminars that dive deeper into heart health topics. Heart and vascular disease can be prevented. Investing time in learning more about diet, exercise, exercise technology, blood pressure, cholesterol, patient stories and general healthy living can go a long way in achieving heart health.

Heart Attack Warning Signs

Some heart attacks are intense and very obvious, but most heart attacks are not so obvious. Don’t hesitate getting medical care.

It is important to recognize these signs and act quickly.

  • Chest discomfort (pain, squeezing, pressure) that lasts more than a few minutes, or goes away and then comes back.
  • Pain or discomfort in upper body (neck, arms, jaw, back, even stomach).
  • Shortness of breath with activity.
  • Feeling lightheaded or dizzy.
  • Cold sweat.
  • Nausea.

If chest pain is sudden or severe, call 911.

If you have mild pain or discomfort that happens with activity and gets better with rest, call your doctor.

Be Tobacco-Free

Within 20 minutes of not using tobacco, your blood pressure is close to normal. Within 24 hours, your chance of a heart attack decreases and within one year, your heart attack rate drops in half. Please call one of these resources for more information:
