Samaritan Encourages Patients to Choose Paperless Billing

Samaritan Health Services is making billing easier, safer and greener by encouraging patients to switch to paperless billing through MyChart. In addition to viewing billing statements in MyChart, patients can set up preferences to get alerts through email or text, and pay with credit card, Google Pay or Apple Pay.

“Samaritan is committed to providing high-quality care while reducing costs and our environmental impact,” said Patty Jones, associate vice president of Patient Accounts. “If you haven’t already, please consider opting in for paperless billing through MyChart.”

How to Opt in to Paperless Billing

If you’re an existing MyChart user:

  • Log in to MyChart.
  • Go to Billing.
  • Select Get Started.
  • Toggle Paperless Billing on.
  • Save your changes.

Need a paper copy later? You can print any statement directly from MyChart.

“Patients will no longer have to wait for, or keep track of, paper statements,” said Jones. “Instead of paper files at home, statements are all easily accessible in MyChart.”

New Users Automatically Enrolled

Starting July 21, new MyChart users will automatically be enrolled in paperless billing. If two billing notifications go unopened, a paper bill will be mailed to the patient.

To opt out of this automatic enrollment, go to Billing in MyChart and toggle off paperless billing, or call the Samaritan customer service team at 800-640-5339.

Customize Your Alerts

To stay informed with billing alerts via MyChart message, email or text:

  • Go to Account Settings in MyChart.
  • Select Communication Preferences.
  • Toggle on your preferred alert method(s) such as email and/or text.

If you opt in for text alerts, you’ll receive a text message when a balance is due with options to pay your bill, set up a payment plan or request financial assistance.

Set Up a Payment Method

To pay a bill or set up a payment method:

  • Go to Billing in MyChart.
  • Scroll to Manage Payment Methods.
  • Add a credit card, Google Pay or Apple Pay. Patients must have a balance due to add a new payment method.

“We’re making it easier for patients to manage their bills while reducing paper use and mailing costs,” said Jones.

In addition, many Samaritan clinics now offer “tap to pay” terminals for added convenience.
