Geriatrician Maureen “Paulie” Bruns, MD, Joins Samaritan October 14, 2020 Maureen “Paulie” Bruns, MD, has joined Samaritan Medical Group – Geriatric Medicine. She specializes in geriatrics, palliative care and end-of-life care. Dr. Bruns earned a bachelor’s degree at University of West Florida and a medical degree at Florida State University College of Medicine. She completed residency training at St. Vincent Medical Center and a fellowship at University of Wisconsin–Madison. Dr. Bruns took a non-traditional path to becoming a doctor, raising her family before going to medical school. When her grandmother suffered a stroke and had to live in a nursing home, it motivated her to become a geriatrician so she could take care of people like her grandmother. Dr. Bruns likes to get to know her patients. “I want to make sure the medical care they receive aligns with their goals and values,” she said. Dr. Bruns was interested in joining Samaritan because the health system is expanding its geriatrics program and she is able to teach future doctors. “Samaritan had the perfect job for me,” she said. “I love Oregon and the West Coast. My family is all out here.” In her free time, Dr. Bruns enjoys hiking, kayaking, grilling and being outdoors. Dr. Bruns sees patients living in care facilities, including Avamere Rehabilitation of Lebanon and the Edward C. Allworth Veterans’ Home. She can be reached at 541-451-6413.
