Thank you for your interest in volunteering with Samaritan Evergreen Hospice.

Volunteers find immense satisfaction in helping the dying retain some control over their lives and live out what is left of life as a person, not just a patient.

Hospice volunteer training classes are offered for those interested in learning about how to support terminally ill patients and their families.

Volunteers must be 18 years of age to participate.

Initial Steps & Requirements

  • Complete and return your application. Find the downloadable application packet below.
  • Submit two references. References must be completed by individuals outside your family. Reference can include friends, teachers/professors, work associates…
  • Complete a criminal background check.
  • Volunteers must be at least 18 years of age to participate.

Applications will be considered only after your completed application items are received by Volunteer Services.

Interview & Next Steps

Volunteers are placed based on skills and available positions.

After completing the initial steps, you will be invited to an interview with Volunteer Services. You will receive volunteer information and review service descriptions and schedules. We will review your skills and interests to determine an appropriate placement.

Once a volunteer assignment has been determined, you will receive a packet of information which includes:

  • Required training.
  • Medical forms.

Last Steps

  • You will also have your picture taken for an identification badge.
  • You will be provided with mandatory general and volunteer orientation education.
  • You will be required to complete a Volunteer Medical Information form and meet immunization/test requirements with the Employee Health Department.
  • After completing the mandatory general and volunteer orientation requirements and receiving clearance by the Employee Health Department, you will contact your area of service to be trained.

Additional Requirements

  • Volunteers must make a minimum commitment of six months.
  • Typically, individuals volunteer once per week for 2 to 4 hours.

Frequently Asked Questions About Volunteering at Samaritan

Yes. Once you have completed training for one service, you are welcome to begin training in another service. Some of our volunteers work in several different volunteer positions.

Samaritan’s dress code applies to all staff, paid and volunteer. The basic dress code requires conservative, business-like attire. Examples of clothing that cannot be worn include: baseball caps, tee shirts, tube tops, shorts, see-through, provocative or revealing clothing, stirrup pants and spandex. A complete copy of Samaritan’s dress code will be provided and reviewed during orientation.

All active volunteers are required to complete an annual education review, which includes information on health and safety, and the hospital emergency procedures. These requirements are regulatory mandates.
