The perinatal internship is an education and training program designed to help nurses build their knowledge, skills, and competence. The outcome goal of this program is to enhance new perinatal nurse abilities to enrich the health and well-being of women, newborns, and families during the antepartum, intrapartum and postpartum settings.
This is a six-week program designed to supplement the graduate nurse transition or the onboarding of a new to perinatal nursing RN. Included material consists of 15 comprehensive modules developed by the Association of Women’s Health, Obstetric and Neonatal Nurses (AWHONN), delivered through a hybrid of in person presentation and self-paced online completion. To supplement the didactic content, hands on skill training and emergency scenario simulation will be provided.
Additional education and training opportunities may be available at the conclusion of the perinatal internship.
