Samaritan Welcomes Sharyn Shepherd, FNP December 2, 2021 Play Video Through a collaboration with Oregon Oncology Specialists and Samaritan Cancer Program, Family Nurse Practitioner Sharyn Shepherd is seeing patients with all types of cancer and blood disorders at Samaritan Hematology & Oncology Consultants. Shepherd earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees in nursing at University of Texas at Arlington. She was motivated to become a nurse by the experience of having a son born prematurely. Shepherd first worked with oncology patients as a bedside nurse and performed the first autologous stem cell transplant in Austin, Texas. When she became a nurse practitioner, she decided to make oncology her focus. Shepherd has a keen interest in breast cancer and anemias, especially those caused by bariatric surgery. She uses a holistic approach in her practice. “When a patient gets a cancer diagnosis, it’s not just their physical body that is affected. Their mind, their spirit and their psyche are affected,” Shepherd said. “I want to help heal all of that.” Shepherd moved to Oregon seeking a better climate, mountains and trees.
