Samaritan Welcomes Cay Mierisch, MD September 21, 2021 Play Video Cay Mierisch, MD, has joined Samaritan Medical Group Hand to Shoulder Orthopedics – Corvallis. He specializes in shoulder, elbow, hand and wrist surgery. Dr. Mierisch earned a medical degree from Medical University of Lubeck. He completed residency training, an internship and a fellowship at University of Virginia, and a fellowship at Mayo Clinic. Dr. Mierisch performs open and arthroscopic procedures, stemless total shoulder replacement, a less invasive, more anatomic procedure, reverse total shoulder replacement, peripheral nerve surgery and microvascular surgery. He uses 3D virtual preoperative planning for more accurate implant placement and to preserve bone. Dr. Mierisch uses minimally invasive techniques in endoscopic carpal tunnel release and arthroscopic surgery of the shoulder, elbow and wrist. He performs implant arthroplasty of the thumb basal joint for quicker recovery and better preservation of strength, and wide-awake hand surgery, a cost-effective technique that eliminates the risks of general anesthesia. Seeing his patients overcome obstacles due to injury or chronic conditions makes being a surgeon rewarding for Dr. Mierisch. “It is the best feeling when patients regain lost quality of life and resume their work or pursue their passions after successful treatment,” he said.
