Learn Heartsaver First Aid, CPR & AED July 8, 2026 Do you have the confidence, skills and knowledge to handle a medical emergency? Learn how at an American Heart Association Heartsaver course taught at the Samaritan Center for Health Education in Newport. In a 4 ½-hour class, participants learn how to provide basic first aid, perform adult, child and infant CPR, and use an automated external defibrillator (AED) in a safe, timely and effective manner. The following first aid topics are covered: Heart attack Stroke Asthma Allergic reactions Diabetic emergencies External bleeding Drowning Water competency – being able to anticipate, avoid and survive common drowning situations Using naloxone (Narcan) – emergency treatment for an opioid overdose If other first aid topics are of interest, you are welcome to ask the course instructor about incorporating additional information into the class. The course covers skills for an adult, child and infant. The cost is $65 per person which includes the book and two-year certification. Please note: Heartsaver classes are a step below Basic Life Support for Healthcare Professionals. Classes will have a minimum of three students and a maximum of six students.
