Good Samaritan Regional Medical Center Honored for a Century of Membership August 14, 2026 Good Samaritan Regional Medical Center has been recognized by the American Hospital Association for an extraordinary milestone: 100 years of membership in the national organization that advocates for hospitals, health systems and the patients and communities they serve. Sean Barry, Regional Executive for AHA Region 9 flew in from the San Francisco Bay area to present a plaque to Sy Johnson, CEO of Samaritan’s Valley Hospitals, and Marty Cahill, president and CEO of Samaritan Health Services. “In preparing for this award, we learned that Corvallis General Hospital, as it was known at the time, was located on Northwest Harrison Boulevard and an early member of the American Hospital Association,” Barry said. “We are proud to recognize the organization that has become Good Samaritan Regional Medical Center and to celebrate 100 years together. Their leadership, caregivers and other professionals at Good Sam play a vital role in the health of the community and its economy.” The recognition highlights a century-long relationship that began when Good Sam was known as Corvallis General Hospital. Since those early days on Harrison Boulevard, the hospital has grown into a regional medical center serving communities throughout the mid-Willamette Valley. “This recognition is about much more than an organizational milestone,” Cahill said. “It reflects generations of caregivers, physicians, staff and community leaders who have dedicated themselves to improving the health of people throughout our region. We are proud of Good Sam’s long history and equally excited about the future as we continue working alongside the American Hospital Association to advance high-quality, compassionate care for the communities we serve.” As Cahill pointed out, the partnership with the AHA has remained steadfast, providing advocacy, resources and leadership to help hospitals navigate the changing healthcare landscape. “It is striking how long and impactful Good Samaritan has been in this community. Our story began more than a century ago as a small, for-profit general hospital serving local residents in the early 1920s,” Johnson said. “Since then, we have continually evolved to meet the needs of our region, from becoming the nonprofit Good Samaritan Hospital in 1948 to achieving Level II Trauma Center designation in 2003 and growing into the regional medical center we are today.” Johnson said the milestone is a reflection of both Good Sam’s history and its enduring commitment to the people it serves. “The growth we’ve experienced over the decades reflects the growth of our community and the expanding healthcare needs of our region,” Johnson said. Founded in 1898, the AHA represents nearly 5,000 hospitals, health systems and other healthcare organizations nationwide. The association works to advance healthcare through advocacy, education and leadership development while supporting the work of millions of caregivers and health care professionals.
