E-Visits Offer Access to Birth Control & STD Screening October 16, 2018 Are you sexually active and need a reliable birth control method? Are you considering taking birth control for the other benefits it can offer? The birth control pill and Nuva Ring medications are safe, simple ways to prevent pregnancy. They also have other benefits to women, including improving acne, making lighter and more regular periods, and improving menstrual cramps. They also have health benefits, including helping to reduce or prevent bone thinning, breast or ovarian cysts, premenstrual syndrome (PMS) and more. MyChart E-Visits offer convenient, online appointments if you need a prescription for birth control. During your E-Visit, the provider will make sure you are a good candidate for birth control by reviewing your health history. If you are, the provider can help you get a birth control prescription for up to one year. This includes the oral pill, vaginal ring or the patch. Other contraception methods, like injections or IUDs, require an office visit. During your E-Visit, you will also receive counseling and education about your birth control. You can also complete an E-Visit if you are worried about possibly having a sexually transmitted infection, including gonorrhea, chlamydia, syphilis, HIV, and hepatitis B or C. Your E-Visit provider will order a lab test for you at the nearest Samaritan lab, and they will notify you of the results when available. If you test positive for an STI, your E-Visit provider will help you figure out the best plan of treatment. If you are having any active symptoms of an STI, patients should make an appointment with their primary care doctor or visit a SamCare Express or urgent care clinic instead. E-Visits are available to Samaritan patients with a MyChart account Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Visit samhealth.org/MyChart to learn more or start your E-Visit today.
