Albany Hospital Named Primary Stroke Center July 2, 2019 Samaritan Albany General Hospital has been certified as a Primary Stroke Center by hospital accrediting organization Det Norske Veritas, known as DNV. As a primary Stroke Center, the hospital has met stringent criteria in patient care, safety and outcomes. “This certification demonstrates a commitment to providing the best possible care, and I am not surprised, because I see that commitment in the stroke care team every day,” said Dan Keteri, hospital CEO. The comprehensive stroke care program at Samaritan Albany General Hospital includes a team of specialists including Hospitalists, Neurologists, Radiologists, Emergency Department physicians, nurses and staff, rehabilitation specialists and many more who coordinate with emergency responders to ensure life and brain-saving stroke care is provided as soon as possible. “With stroke, as we always remind people, time lost is brain lost, so it is important to call 911 right away if you suspect you or a loved one is having a stroke,” said Stroke Care Coordinator Carrie Manley, RN. Samaritan Albany General Hospital has also been awarded the Silver Plus Target Stroke Honor Roll Award by the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association. “We are proud of the dedication of care providers across the Samaritan system, as well as the close collaboration with regional EMTs,” Manley said.
