Help Your Child Grow up Great

Just like a tree needs care, water and strong roots to grow, children need steady support to thrive. Well‑child visits are one of the most important ways you can help your child grow up healthy, confident and ready for school.

From birth through age 18, well‑child visits give your child’s health care provider the chance to support growth and development at every stage — helping your child build strong roots for a healthy future.

Why Well-child Visits Are Important

Well‑child visits are more than a routine checkup. They help your provider see how your child is growing over time — and catch concerns early, when it’s easiest to make a difference.

These visits help to:

  • Make sure your child is growing and developing on track.
  • Identify delays or concerns early, when support works best.
  • Keep vaccines up to date and protect against preventable illness.
  • Support your child’s learning, behavior and school readiness.
  • Build a trusted relationship with your child’s provider.

Preventive care improves long‑term health and quality of life. Some children just need a little extra support — and well‑child visits help ensure they get it.

What to Expect at a Well-child Check

Each well-child visit includes:

  • Height, weight and head measurements.
  • A full physical exam.
  • Immunization updates.
  • Developmental screenings.
  • Time to ask questions and share concerns.

These visits are a positive, supportive space — for caregivers and children alike.

Well-child Visit Schedule (Ages 0 to 6)

To support healthy growth, children should have well‑child visits at:

Infancy & toddler years:
2, 4, 6, 9, 12, 15 and 18 months.

Preschool years:
2 years, 2½ years and yearly from ages 3 to 6.

After age 6, children should continue annual checkups.

Vaccines Help Protect Growing Families

Vaccines are an important part of preventive care and help protect your child and others from preventable diseases.

Your provider will review your child’s vaccination schedule and answer questions during each visit.

A Safe Space to Learn & Grow Together

Well‑child visits are a positive, supportive space for parents and caregivers to learn and ask questions. This is your time to:

  • Share concerns or challenges.
  • Celebrate milestones and achievements.
  • Learn ways to support your child’s growth at home.
  • Get guidance you can trust.

You know your child best — and your provider is here to help you nurture their growth.
