Healing Gardens Lecture: Japanese Philosophies of Wabi Sabi & Forest Bathing

18Sep

Join us for a captivating exploration of Japanese Healing Gardens as havens for peace and well-being. Diane Durston is curator emerita of the Portland Japanese Garden, where world-renowned garden designer, Hoichi Kurisu served as garden director from 1968 to 1973. Kurisu designed and created the three healing gardens in Lebanon.

Durston lived for 18 years in Kyoto, famous as the center of garden history in Japan. In addition to three books on Kyoto, Durston is also the author of Wabi Sabi, a personal meditation on wabi, a sense of the transient nature of beauty, and sabi, an appreciation of the beauty of natural aging. In this talk, she introduces these ideas and offers ways of understanding the Japanese approach to garden design as an art form, and a way of connecting with the healing power of the natural world.

Lebanon Community Hospital Foundation is proud to offer this event for the community, thanks to generous funding from TMS.

Registration is required.
