Family Day in the Garden

Family Day in the Garden is offered as part of the Nature’s Medicine: Rest & Rejuvenate in Lebanon’s Japanese Gardens series. Enjoy a full day of hands-on creativity and nature-inspired learning with activities for children, families, and adults. These special events invites participants of all ages to explore art, craft and the garden together.

11 a.m. to 1 p.m. – Drop-in Activities

During this drop-in period, participants can explore a variety of creative and self-guided activities. No registration is required.

  • Origami for Beginners: Learn simple origami folds and create your own paper designs. All skill levels are welcome.
  • Rock Painting: Decorate a rock with paint and designs to take home.
  • I Spy Bingo: Take a self-paced garden walk while completing a fun I Spy bingo card.
  • Fused Glass Plant Stakes: Participants will create a custom fused glass plant stake. Finished pieces will be available for pick up the following week after kiln firing. This activity is for children ages 6 and older and adults.

1 to 4 p.m. – Bonsai Class (Sold Out)

Bonsai expert Lee Cheatle will lead a hands-on bonsai class for adults age 18 and older. Participants will learn basic bonsai techniques and take their bonsai tree and container home.

About Lee Cheatle: He has practiced bonsai since 1994 and is a member of the Bonsai Society of Portland. He has won several awards and has studied with leading instructors in the United States.

There is a $20 supply fee per participant. Please plan to pay in cash the day of the event. Registration is required.
