DAISY Nurse Leader Award Recognizes Kymberlin Wobig’s Emergency Department Impact

Samaritan Albany General Hospital has partnered with The DAISY Foundation to recognize extraordinary nurses for the compassionate care they provide to patients and families every day. DAISY is an acronym for Diseases Attacking the Immune System.

Kymberlin Wobig, RN, Emergency Department manager, was honored with the DAISY Nurse Leader Award. She began her career at Samaritan Albany General Hospital in 2014 as a new graduate nurse in the Emergency Department. Over the years, she has grown within the department, serving as a charge nurse, supervisor and now manager. She also supports Sarah’s Place.

Putting Patients & Team First

Wobig was nominated by colleagues and a patient who praised her leadership, commitment to patients and dedication to her team.

The nominators stated:

  • “I cannot say enough about all the amazing things Kymberlin has been doing. She is not only committed to improving our patients’ experiences, but she is also diligent in making sure our patients receive the care they need as well as deserve. She has done a phenomenal job in increasing our Emergency Department scores and I just heard her team has significantly improved their documentation. Furthermore, I can feel and see an improvement in overall morale in the Emergency Department since she has stepped up. Kymberlin, you are truly the best and I hope you know that you are very much appreciated!”
  • “Kymberlin is an incredible person to work with and a true asset to our Emergency Department. She consistently responds promptly and provides thorough reviews, demonstrating her deep commitment to our patients’ well-being. It’s clear that she genuinely cares and her dedication shines through in everything she does. I’m proud to share with others what an outstanding leader we have in our department. Not only is she an exceptional care provider, but she also serves as a passionate advocate for our patients. Her efforts to enhance the patient experience have made a noticeable impact, as reflected in our improved scores and reduced grievances. Her hard work and dedication have not gone unnoticed — it truly shows, and we are so fortunate to have her leading the way. I am so stinking proud of you, Kymberlin!”
  • “Dr. Mangione sent us to the Emergency Department and the great service continued there. I am grateful to everyone in the Samaritan system who cared for my loved one over those four days. There is nothing better than having a loved one get excellent care.”

Her supervisor, Jennifer Davis-Emmert, describes Wobig as a steady and highly capable leader in a demanding environment.

“Kymberlin is a strong, calm and solutions-focused leader,” Davis-Emmert said. “She brings sound judgment and resilience to the Emergency Department, supports her team and often steps in to provide hands-on care when the department is busy. She is deeply committed to maintaining high standards and safe, high-quality care.”

Davis-Emmert added that Wobig exemplifies Samaritan’s PRIDE values through her accountability, teamwork and focus on patient care.

“Leading the Emergency Department requires exceptional skill and adaptability, and Kymberlin consistently rises to that challenge,” she said. “She is respected by her team and peers, and her contributions are valued across the organization.”

Kymberlin Wobig's team and leadership celebrate her Daisy Award.

A ceremony was held to honor Wobig and the PRIDE — passion, respect, integrity, dedication and excellence — she demonstrates in her work. At the ceremony, she was recognized by her colleagues and family for her leadership and positive impact.

She was presented with a certificate, nurse leader DAISY pin and a Healer’s Touch statue created by an artist in Zimbabwe, symbolizing the relationship between nurses, patients and families. DAISY Award recipients also receive access to professional development opportunities, including certification and education support.
