Quality Cancer Care Recognized by National Accreditations October 8, 2025 Samaritan Health Services’ Cancer Program and Radiation Oncology Department were recently awarded full reaccreditation from the American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer and a newly earned accreditation from the American Society for Radiation Oncology APEx Accreditation Program for Excellence. Samaritan houses the only cancer program in Oregon accredited by the American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer as an Academic Comprehensive Cancer Program. To achieve this status, the Samaritan Cancer Program must participate in post-graduate medical education in a minimum of four disciplines, offer a full range of diagnostic and treatment services and participate in cancer-related clinical research. “The Commission on Cancer accreditation is considered the hallmark of excellence by continuously raising the bar on patient-centered care and well-structured cancer programs,” said John Strother, MD, medical oncologist and medical director for Samaritan Hematology & Oncology. The prestigious APEx accreditation earned by Samaritan Radiation Oncology – Corvallis evaluates all aspects of radiation oncology services. APEx accreditation requires rigorous evaluation of safety and quality processes, patient-centered care practices and compliance with standards through both self-assessment and external facility review. “The APEx accreditation aligns with the largest radiation oncology society in the world,” said Norman Yeh, MD, radiation oncologist and medical director of Samaritan Radiation Oncology. “We are proud to demonstrate our commitment to providing our patients with only the highest quality of care.” Samaritan has also earned the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers and is a member of the Association of Cancer Care Centers.
