DAISY Nursing Award

Nurses Honored for Taking PRIDE to the Next Level

In nursing, very few awards are more significant and meaningful than The DAISY Award. Samaritan is proud to offer this award to its nurses who are recognized for the compassionate, exemplary care they provide. 

DAISY stands for Diseases Attacking the Immune System. It is administered by The DAISY Foundation, a nonprofit organization established in memory of J. Patrick Barnes by members of his family. Patrick died at the age of 33 in late 1999 from complications of an autoimmune disease. The care Patrick and his family received from nurses while he was ill, inspired this unique means of thanking nurses for making a profound difference in the lives of their patients and patient families.

All five Samaritan-affiliated hospitals have partnered with The DAISY Foundation to offer the award for care that goes beyond Samaritan’s PRIDE values (passion, respect, integrity, dedication and excellence). Nurses who win the award receive:

• A ‘Healer’s Touch’ serpentine stone statue, hand-carved by Shona artists in Zimbabwe.
• A special rate for nursing certification renewal.
• Reduced tuition from Chamberlain University College of Nursing.
• Ability to apply for the Cherokee Nursing Conference Scholarship to help fund attendance at a nursing conference and support the nurse’s career advancement.
• Other benefits as decided by each hospital.
