Surgical Technologist Apprenticeship

Program Overview

Samaritan Health Services participates in Health Star Initiative’s Surgical Technologist Apprenticeship program. It is a true “earn and learn” pathway to employment for individuals wanting to become a certified surgical technologist.

Surgical technologists are highly valued and in demand in the health care industry. They work alongside to assist surgeons, nurses and other members of the health care team throughout a surgical operation. The role of the surgical technologist is incredibly important because they ensure a sterile and organized environment.

Apprentices will:

  • Earn and learn: All apprentices will be full-time employees with benefits and eligible for hire upon completion of the program.
  • Prepare for surgical technologist certification: The program prepares apprentices to complete the NCCT Tech in Surgery TS-C exam.
  • Complete hands-on training: Apprentices will complete 2,000 hours of on-the-job training over 12 months with one-on-one mentoring by an experienced surgical technologist and 288 hours of online coursework through Health Star JATC.
