This event has passed. 19OctSamaritan Center for Health EducationSaturday, Oct. 19, 9:00 am - 1:00 pmFree USD 740 SW Ninth St Newport, Oregon More than three dozen local organizations, businesses and departments from Samaritan Health Services will take part in the Healthier You Expo on Saturday, Oct. 19, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Samaritan Center for Health Education, 740 SW Ninth St. in Newport. Admission is free to attend this annual event that offers wellness opportunities ranging from A (acupuncture treatments) to V (volunteer opportunities), along with education and information for improved health and well-being. “Every year, the expo keeps getting bigger and better,” said Amy Conner, health resource coordinator. “This is a great opportunity for community members to meet with local professionals on a variety of health and wellness topics, get their seasonal flu shot and so much more.” One Event, Dozens of Free Offerings The event will be set up trade-show style with participants stopping at the booths that most interest them. Among the offerings are acupuncture treatments, balance assessment, blood pressure checks, body fat testing, chair massage, dental screenings, flu shots (insurance will be billed), leg strength assessment, mini facials, Reiki, sleep assessment and vision screenings. “We know people will be excited to participate in these free activities, which will be offered on a first-come basis,” Conner said. In addition, education and information will be offered on addiction and recovery resources, adaptive gardening strategies, diabetes and nutrition, fitness opportunities, health care at home, hypnotherapy and yoga. Attendees are encouraged to bring a donation for Food Share of Lincoln County (please, no glass products or expired foods) and drop off unused eyeglasses, hearing aids and cell phones for recycling. The opioid-overdose antidote naloxone (Narcan) will be available for attendees to pick up and have on hand. There will be giveaways, door prizes, food sampling by Oceana Natural Foods Co-op and an American Red Cross blood drive. View a complete list of participating agencies.
