Coastal Donors Support Local Cancer Patients June 17, 2020 Over the past seven years, Aimee and Rob Thompson and Ken Riley, owners of Thompson’s Sanitary Service, have partnered with the Pacific Communities Health District Foundation to help their coastal neighbors battling cancer through a special “CAN Cancer” fundraiser. Their efforts have raised almost $70,000 and helped more than 250 local cancer patients in covering non-medical living expenses. CAN Cancer is one of the many funds that are distributed through Samaritan Foundations Patient Support Program. Donors to each of the five Samaritan foundations support the most vulnerable in Benton, Lincoln and Linn counties by extending financial assistance to local patients. Patient Support funds are available for low-income patients who are receiving treatment for an illness or chronic disease, or are in the process of being discharged from a hospital stay or emergency room visit. The program provides access to the support and services people need by funding resources such as transportation, medical bills, durable medical goods, nutritional supplements and prescription assistance. Through this program donors are extending kindness and compassion when it is most needed. Join a Samaritan Giving Society In 2019, donors contributed more than $6.1 million to their local Samaritan-affiliated hospital foundations in support of unique world-class facilities, programming, cutting-edge technology, healing and compassionate environments, and growing and developing careers. As a not-for-profit organization, Samaritan Health Services relies on philanthropic support from the community to continue to provide exceptional health care to residents and visitors throughout the mid-Willamette Valley and central Oregon Coast.
