Samaritan Welcomes Devin Petersen, PhD

Psychologist Devin Petersen, PhD, has joined Samaritan Family Medicine Resident Clinic. He provides behavioral health care and support.

Dr. Petersen earned a bachelor’s degree at Brigham Young University, and a master’s degree and doctoral degree in clinical psychology at Southern Illinois University. He completed residency training at Good Samaritan Regional Medical Center.

Dr. Petersen specializes in helping people build healthy habits, such as engaging in physical activity or following a healthy eating pattern, in addition to addressing conditions such as stress, anxiety and depression.

“Taking care of people as a whole is very important to me,” he said.

After completing his residency and an internship at Samaritan, he decided to stay because he values the relationships he built and appreciates the emphasis on team-based care.

“I really buy into the focus on providing preventive care,” Dr. Petersen said. “And I share Samaritan’s values of focusing not only on conditions that affect mental health, but also the important habits related to overall health.”

He appreciates how Samaritan has integrated behavioral health into primary care clinics.

“It’s a newer approach to providing accessible services,” he said.

Dr. Petersen is from the Pacific Northwest and said he loves his new home in the Willamette Valley. Away from the office, he enjoys camping, hiking, photography, going to the Oregon Coast and spending time with friends and family.

Dr. Petersen is accepting new patients and can be reached at Samaritan Family Medicine Resident Clinic at 541-768-5142.
