Samaritan Welcomes Christopher McCrum, MD

Christopher McCrum, MD, has joined Samaritan Athletic Medicine Center. He specializes in orthopedic surgery and sports medicine.

Dr. McCrum earned a bachelor’s degree at University of Michigan and a medical degree at Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine. He completed residency training at Los Angeles County-USC Medical Center and a fellowship at University of Pittsburgh Medical Center.

Dr. McCrum has a passion for helping people recover from injury so that they can achieve their goals.

“Whether you are an elite athlete, weekend warrior or just enjoy being active with your family, having an injury that prevents participation can be devastating,” he said. “I became an orthopedic surgeon to help patients get back to their best active lifestyle.”

Dr. McCrum performs arthroscopy of the knee, shoulder and hip, a procedure to looks inside a joint to diagnose or fix problems. He specializes in anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction, rotator cuff repair, meniscus repair, knee ligament repair and reconstruction, labral repair of the hip, correction of impingement syndrome of the hip, tendon repair, shoulder stabilization, knee alignment correction, as well as treating previous failed sports medicine procedures.

Additionally, he has clinical interest in cartilage repair and regeneration.

Dr. McCrum matches all aspects of treatment to each person’s needs, from choosing between nonoperative and operative treatments to tailoring the surgery.

“I prioritize understanding the level of activity, sports and lifestyle, as well as the anatomy of each patient,” he said. “Every person is unique, and I believe in treating them with individual focus.”

Dr. McCrum values the trust that patients place in him after they sustain a life-changing injury or struggle with immobility or pain.

“My goal is to help them recover,” he said. “I look forward to caring for members of the community, as well as student-athletes at Oregon State University.”

Away from the office, Dr. McCrum enjoys hiking, snowboarding, ice hockey and living an active lifestyle with his family.
