Breast Milk Depot

The Center for Women and Families at Good Samaritan Regional Medical Center in Corvallis serves as a regional breast milk depot, where donors can bring breast milk for shipping to a milk bank. At the milk bank, milk is processed, pasteurized and distributed to infants across the country in need of this vital resource.

It can be the difference between life and death for some premature or medically-fragile infants.

Steps to Become a Donor

To become a breast milk donors:

Call Northwest Mothers Milk Bank at 503-469-0955 to participate in a telephone health screening and arrange for form completion.
Contact the Good Samaritan Regional Medical Center Laboratory at 541-768-5059 to schedule a one-time blood test, free of charge.
Make arrangements to deliver your frozen breast milk to the Center for Women and Families. Depot drop-offs must be pre-arranged to ensure timely delivery. Our depot provides dry ice, packing materials and boxes for transporting your milk.

Milk Bank Donor Requirements

Milk bank donors must meet the following requirements:

Be in good health.
Non-smoker – no use of any nicotine products.
Negative blood test for viruses (prenatal results are NOT used).
Limited use of medications during the time milk is collected for donation. Medications safe for use during donation will be determined during a health screening.
Limited consumption of caffeine and alcohol.
Willing to donate a minimum of 100-150 ounces with initial donation.
Northwest Mothers Milk Bank medical release forms signed by mother’s and baby’s doctors.
