Samaritan Welcomes Geriatrician Maureen “Paulie” Bruns October 28, 2020 Maureen “Paulie” Bruns, MD, has joined Samaritan Medical Group Geriatric Medicine. She specializes in geriatrics, palliative care and end-of-life care. She sees patients living in care facilities, including Avamere Rehabilitation of Lebanon and the Edward C. Allworth Veterans’ Home. She took a non-traditional path to becoming a doctor, raising her family before going to medical school. When her grandmother suffered a stroke and had to live in a nursing home, it motivated her to become a geriatrician. Dr. Bruns likes to get to know her patients. “I want to make sure the medical care they receive aligns with their goals and values,” she said. Dr. Bruns was interested in joining Samaritan because the health system is expanding its geriatrics program and she is able to teach future doctors. “Samaritan had the perfect job for me,” she said. “I love Oregon and the West Coast.
