SUMMARY:Identifying\, Investigating & Prosecuting Domestic Violence & Strangulation Cases
DESCRIPTION:Strangulation has been identified as one of the most lethal forms of domestic violence and sexual assault: unconsciousness may occur within seconds and death within minutes. \nGael Strack and Bill Smock are leading specialized experts in the identification\, investigation and documentation of strangulation in intimate partner violence cases\, will cover the following: \n\nFindings from a study of 300 misdemeanor strangulation cases.\nUnderstanding the lethality of strangulation.\nIdentifying the signs and symptoms of strangulation cases.\nAnatomy and medical aspects in surviving and non-surviving victims.\nInvestigating and documenting a domestic violence and sexual assault strangulation case for prosecution.\nLegal aspects of strangulation cases with surviving victims.\nTools and resources for advocates.\nResources and handouts developed by the Training Institute on Strangulation Prevention.\nUse of experts in court.\n\nThis one-day course is geared towards medical providers\, nurses\, psychologists\, MFTs\, LCSWs judges\, law enforcement\, prosecutors\, paramedics\, EMTs\, advocates\, civil legal and attorneys. \nCMEs and CEUs are available. Registration is required and lunch will be provided.
