SUMMARY:Childbirth Preparation
DESCRIPTION:This course can be taken at any time\, but it’s helpful to finish it a few weeks before baby’s arrival. \nThis 2-day course helps expectant parents prepare for birth and early parenting. The cost is $110 per birthing parent (partner included.) \nAll course dates: \n\nApril 13.\nApril 14.\n\nParents can expect to learn about comfort measures for pregnancy\, labor and birth and the postpartum period. The overall goals of the course are to normalize the birth experience and increase parents’ confidence. It’s possible to perceive birth in a positive way\, rise to the occasion\, and adjust to whatever presents! \nIf you have Oregon Health Plan insurance (IHN or Pacific Source)\, your plan will cover this class at no cost to you. Please contact Mandy Clark at 541-768-6908 for more information. \nThis class can be taken online or in person. Registration is required and detailed location information will be provided up registration\, including a link to the virtual option. \nBirth Preparation\nThis course includes information about: \n\nAnatomy and physiology.\nThe mind-body connection.\nSigns and stages of labor.\nPatterns associated with normal and more complicated labors.\nMedicated and non-medicated comfort measures.\nBaby positioning strategies.\nMedical interventions associated with complications.\nStrategies for informed decision-making.\nCare of the birthing parent and infant during the first hours\, days\, and weeks postpartum.\nHospital procedures related to infant care.\nBreastfeeding.\nBehavior of the infant as it relates to feeding\, calming and sleeping.\nCar seat safety.\nJaundice\, SIDS\, ‘purple crying’ and Post Partum Depression.\n\nParents will be given information on local resources\, books\, videos and websites. \nThese classes are supported by the Center of Women and Families at Good Samaritan Regional Medical Center and the Good Samaritan Hospital Foundation. \nFor more information or to register\, contact Mandy Clark at 541-768-6908 or Pollywog at 541-917-4884 or pollywogfamily.org. \nComplementary Subjects:\n\nConsider taking the breastfeeding classes and the anesthesiology class through Good Samaritan\, and other childbirth preparation classes available locally.\nAlso consider learning about car seats before purchasing one.\nMaternity Coordinator Mandy Clark can guide you toward these offerings.
